How do I become a Referee?Believe it or not, all ‘official’ referees, even those on your local leagues, have all been trained and have a qualification from the Football Association. Yes, they all began by attending a referee training course. As well as having an expert knowledge of the Laws of football the referee must also understand how to apply them during the game. Our course covers all of the basic skills required by the referee, and classroom instruction is fully complemented by practical (on the field) training. This helps the new referee to develop confidence. For more details, please contact us via the feedback forms. Back to TopWhere can I find my local Referees Association?Click on the Links page on the left and then click on TheFA.com link and search for your local RA The Milton Keynes classroom instruction is conducted at the Shenley Leisure Center, Shenley Church End. Back to TopWho can attend? The course is open to anyone (male or female) who is aged 14 years or older. However, the number of participants is limited to a maximum of 26 per course and the demand for places is such that courses are invariably oversubscribed. Early registration is therefore strongly recommended. We are also limited to 4 under 16 candidates per course. Back to TopWhat is the cost?Approximately £65. The instruction (including a copy of the official book Laws of Association Football) and examination are included in the cost. After passing the examination all referees must register with their County Football Association for which there is an annual fee of £10 (I believe this is included in the cost). After completing 10 games, you will receive £30 back from Berks & Bucks. Back to TopWhen are the courses held? There are normally two courses held each year starting in September and January. Each course lasts ten weeks and consists of ten classroom sessions (Monday evenings 7.30-9.45 pm). Back to TopContact our Training Officer, Alan Branch, by email alan@alanbranch.wanadoo.co.uk. Alan will be pleased to give you any further information and, if you wish, register you for the next available course.
